What we did
- Book design
A book can embody the spirit of an artist in a detailed and intimate way. For that reason, the Mapfre Foundation commissioned us to create a book of Richard Leayrod’s work, to coincide with his solo exhibition at Mapfre Gallery in Barcelona.
To connect the publication more directly to Learoyd’s work, we tailored details with cues relating to his aesthetic. Many of Learoyd’s works are made using a camera obscura in a visual dialogue with the European painting tradition, taking on a dramatic scale. Our design approach played with scale in a similar way, particularly in the use of illustrations and type, where conventional hierarchies were subtly subverted.
The result was an intimate collection of Learoyd’s work, echoing the exhibition’s emphasis on scale and tradition.
