Luigi Ghirri Estate
What we did
- Visual identity
- Website design and development
- Stationery design
An artist’s work is often held in siloed collections all around the world. Archiving a life's work online creates a comprehensive hub for those wishing to study and gain a full overview and understanding of the artist's output.
The Reggio-Emilia-based archive of Luigi Ghirri commissioned us to create an online platform to present the fine art photographer's archived works and biography. Our task was to create a strong identity for the archive and promote its exploration with a website-based browsing experience.
Luigi Ghirri’s vast body of work included many thousands of photographs and dozens of books, so our design prioritised the ability to search and share. To do this the website needed to house a great number of large image files, many of which had previously been held back.
In developing the archive's visual language, we took inspiration from Ghirri's fascination with cartography to plot works on a timeline of his biography, along with bibliography and exhibitions. The result is a simple to navigate website that carries curious users through the vast body of Ghirri’s work.
